I’ve been excited to try these protein bars for a while and now is finally the time I have decided to give the Grenade Carb Killa Birthday cake flavour protein bars a go. Since being founded in 2009, the Grenade Nutrition brand has quickly built up a reputation in the supplement industry. Their wide range of supplements include protein, pre workout, BCAAs and more. I’ve personally been a fan of the Grenade Thermo Detonator fat burners for a while. Grenade have one of the widest ranges of hard hitting supplements on the market today.
The Carb Killa protein bars have been around for a while now. theres already a wide selection including caramel, Peanut Butter and my personal favourite Chocolate Mint. They are also widely available both online and in store at places such as Tesco and Boots. Now the Birthday cake flavour changes the game and brings a flavour not usually seen in protein bars to the market.
Protein bars are a very good supplement to boost your daily protein in take on the go. I personally like to take them to work. They allow me to add roughly 20g of protein to my macros. I also find them filling and convenient as theres no need to make a shake when you are out. Protein bars are also great for any time, including after a workout or for breakfast.
Not all protein bars are made equal though. There are a lot of protein bars that are high in both carbs and sugar. These can make it difficult if you are trying to keep to your macros. There are also others that just don’t taste very nice. Take a look at our review below of the new Birthday Cake flavour Carb Killa bar.
When I first opened the packaging, the bar is toped with coloured pieces that look like they have just came straight off a birthday cake. Under that the bar is coated in what looks like a white icing. When you bite into the bar, you reveal its delicious, rainbow covered vanilla flavouring. I have always been a fan of Carb Killa bars and the Birthday cake flavour is no exception. The texture of the bar is also interesting and reminds me of a very thick and chewy sponge cake underneath the icing.
The bar feels heavy and very filling when you are eating it. Overall i’m very happy with the taste its very enjoyable to consume. Theres no nasty after taste or surprises. Its just a very enjoyable bar and definitely one of my favourites from Grenade.
The Carb Killa bars always tend to have good nutritional value. the exact amounts vary per flavour, with some having quite a big variance compared with others. The peanut butter flavour has more carbs and sugars, where as the mint chocolate flavour is on the lower end. Per bar there are 218 calories, 9.5 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbs and 20 grams of protein. If you are looking for the values per 100 grams, there is 33 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs.
The carbohydrate value of these bars is very lower compared to some of the others on the market. For example, the Quest Bar Birthday Cake flavour has 20 grams of carbs per serving. It’s impressive that Grenade have managed to get nutritional values this good in a bar that tastes as great as it does.
The price of the bar has never been the strongest point of Grenade bars. You can easily go online and get protein bars for a lot cheaper. However, I believe you get what you pay for and i’m happy to pay for what I get in terms of quality with the Grenade bars. You can buy a single bar from the Grenade website or in Tesco stores for £2.49. This can soon add up if you are buying them regularly. I personally prefer to buy them as a pack from Amazon. The price does vary somewhat but you can currently get 12 bars for £18.99 which works out roughly £1.60 per bar. Buying them in the pack also means you get the cardboard tray to keep them in. I like to use this and keep them on the side.

Overall I love these protein bars. They taste great and look appetising. the nutritional values are also great with over 20 grams of protein per serving. They are slightly price, but you can get great savings when buying them in bulk.
